The Most Underrated Mental Health Tool

Almost every measure of mental wellbeing improves with sleep. Almost nobody prioritizes it.

Sleep is one of the most consistently effective, least glamorous levers for mental health, and it's often the first thing sacrificed under pressure. Poor sleep doesn't just make you tired — it measurably worsens mood regulation, anxiety, and the ability to handle ordinary stress.

A consistent wind-down routine matters more than most people expect: same rough bedtime, less screen time beforehand, a dark and cool room. None of it is complicated. Most of it is simply deprioritized in favor of "just one more hour."

If you're struggling emotionally and haven't examined your sleep, it's worth starting there. It's rarely the whole answer, but it's rarely irrelevant either.
