Leading From a Full Cup

You cannot sustainably give what you don't have. Neither can your team.

A common, well-intentioned belief among leaders is that their needs come last — that leadership means constant self-sacrifice. Taken too far, that belief produces exhausted, depleted leaders whose teams inherit their depletion, whether they mean to pass it on or not.

Sustainable leadership requires the same maintenance you'd expect from any high-performing system: real rest, honest support, boundaries that protect your capacity to keep showing up. None of that is indulgent. It's what allows the giving to continue.

Leading from an empty cup eventually runs out. Leading from a full one is the only version that lasts.
