Rhythms for an Overwhelmed Mind, Not a Lazy One

Most study advice assumes focus is a discipline problem. Often, it's a capacity problem.

A lot of study advice treats difficulty focusing as a willpower failure. For students carrying anxiety, exhaustion, or overwhelm, that framing misses what's actually happening — the issue usually isn't discipline, it's capacity.

Working with an overwhelmed mind rather than against it tends to work better: shorter, well-defined blocks of focus, real breaks instead of half-breaks spent scrolling, and starting with the task that feels most possible rather than most urgent.

If you've been telling yourself you just need more willpower, consider that you might actually need more rest, and a kinder starting point.
